HOW ANAGRAMS WORK

AN EXACT LETTER INVENTORY

CHEATY sorts the letters in your input and compares that exact inventory with every same-length entry in the selected list. Nothing may be added, dropped or reused. LISTEN can produce SILENT, ENLIST, INLETS and TINSEL because each result contains one L, I, S, T, E and N. LIST and LINE are not returned because they leave letters unused, even though both can be made from part of the input.

The original arrangement can also be a valid result. For example, STONE appears alongside NOTES, ONSET and TONES. Anagram answers “which complete rearrangements exist?”, not “which shorter words can I build?”

REPEATED LETTERS COUNT

Repetition is part of the match, not a detail the solver ignores. STATE has two Ts, so TASTE and TEATS are exact matches: both also have two Ts plus one S, A and E. Adding or removing even one repeated letter creates a different search. APPLE can match APPLE, but PALE cannot appear here because it leaves one P unused.

Enter only the letters to rearrange. Spaces, punctuation and numbers are removed during input cleanup. Unlike Finder, Anagram does not treat a question mark as a blank tile; it requires literal letters for an exact comparison.

A PRACTICAL CHECKING ROUTINE

First copy the source letters exactly, especially duplicates. Run the search in EN or DE, then compare each promising result with the original by crossing off one occurrence at a time. If no result appears, check the selected language and your spelling before assuming there is no anagram. A different inflection or one missing letter changes the inventory and therefore the answer.

WHEN FINDER IS THE BETTER TOOL

Use Finder when unused letters are allowed, when you have a blank, or when you need a certain length, beginning, ending or internal sequence. With LISTEN, Finder can include shorter candidates; Anagram deliberately cannot. Both tools search the same bundled lists: a broad English list and a German word-game list. These are broad working lists, not official Scrabble or tournament dictionaries, and uncommon entries or omissions are possible.

ANAGRAM SOLVER FAQ

What is an anagram?

An anagram is a word formed by rearranging all letters of another word while using every letter exactly once.

Does the anagram solver use every letter?

Yes. CHEATY Anagram uses every entered letter with the exact same letter frequency.

What is the difference between Anagram and Finder?

Anagram uses every entered letter, with the same letter counts. Finder returns words that use some or all of the entered letters.
